Dr. Suman Dana

Background

Suman is a synthetic chemist hailing from Bankura, a small town in eastern India, where he completed his early education. He earned his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from Bankura Christian College in 2012 before pursuing his MSc at the University of Hyderabad, where he was awarded the gold medal for academic excellence. Suman went on to pursue a PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, working under the guidance of Prof. Mahiuddin Baidya, where he focused on oxidative Ru(II)-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling reactions, completing his thesis in 2021.

Following his PhD, Suman joined the University of Goettingen as a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Lutz Ackermann. There, he expanded his expertise in enantioselective electro-catalyzed C-H activation reactions. In November 2024, he began a new chapter in his career, joining the research group of Prof. Christof Sparr to further explore the intricacies of stereoselective catalysis.

Outside of his academic endeavors, Suman enjoys traveling, photography, and reading.
